Today we had fun. Among several others, we made the flying man to promote Kentam products. I had to make Kondwani jump about a hundred times to get it right!

Still in Mzuzu

Models for the Kentam photos: Tikwite, Mphatso, Judy
The advertising photos for Kentam are going smoothly, we are making good headway. Today the weather was not ideal for outdoor photos but toward the end of the afternoon the rain stopped. With flash on a stand I made it look like sunny weather, and we got some really nice photos. More work tomorrow!

Monday 28 April 2014

Hi everybody,

After photographing a wedding on Saturday (beautiful wedding fo Grace Phiri and Maziko Zimba, great fun!) I spent Sunday morning editing photos for FD Communications. After that brunch with Joke, who I'm going to miss terribly for the rest of the week.
Then I drove the rest of the day up north to Mzuzu. The last few hours in the dark which requires attention for the occasional pothole.
Now I'm in Mzuzu, doing advertising photos from Kentam Products all week.
Today went nice, all photos with models. It was all well prepared so it went smoothly. Toothache pills, back ache pills, anti cough, and more farmaceuticals. We really had fun when we had to get a model to cough in a crowded minibus and everybody else is disgusted. Good promotion to take a cough medicine!

I won a photo competition

I just found out I won a photo competition from the Commonwealth Forest Association. It was about forests, so I sent in a photo I made a few years ago about the forest in Malawi. The boy cannot concentrate on his school work at home, because the rest of the family are always noisy. So he goes out into the forest, where it is quiet. I had all but forgotten about it when I received a phone call:

"You won! Your picture 'A quiet time for reading' was judged to be the best in the competition."

I am elated. It has been a while since I won, maybe I should compete more. This is definitely great news, and a motivation to keep competing!

Back in Blantyre

Back from a week Lilongwe. Doing photos for a Norwegian Magazine on Kamuzu Central Hospital, and commercial photos for a tobacco company.
Then I did some shooting for Tigris video. Far from finished, but we have a good start. Tigris is pregnant and asked me to do some pregnancy photos as well. For this great singer I do it on command!
Now editing and more!

Today I saw the posters up for politician Noel Chalamanda. He asked for a clear professional portrait with an authoritative feel. This is what i made for him:

Back from the North

It was a while since I posted here, but I am back. I've been doing a few different things. Corporate portraits for an annual report, some concerts, and most importantly: a trip to the north of Malawi, Rumphi and Mzimba, to photograph the tobacco cultivation. They are harvesting at some places, and growing at others, so I had different stages of teh process to photograph. The fields are beautiful. Here in the tropics you have to get up early to get that great light, but it is worth it for a good photo. Even earlier when we have to travel some time over dirt roads before we get to the actual tobacco farm.
My trip to Lilongwe is rescheduled. Sunday I go there, then on Monday I photograph a Norwegian doctor in Kamuzu Central Hospital. After that I'll do a few days of corporate photography for a tobacco company. Interesting. I have to follow a photography brief, which means I have to follow the guidelines in every photo I make. There is no routine work there, it will all be very deliberate and well designed. I will keep you all informed.
